The 38th World Ophthalmology Congress Online Conference (WOC 2022 Virtual), sponsored for the first time by the Chinese Medical Association and the Ophthalmology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and co organized by the Asia Pacific Ophthalmology Society, came to a successful conclusion recently. More than 1000 ophthalmologists from 135 countries and regions shared their research achievements in strengthening the prevention and treatment of high-quality eye diseases online.
Professor Yao Ke, co chairman of the academic committee of the 2022 World Ophthalmology Congress and chairman of the ophthalmology branch of the Chinese Medical Association, was invited to work with Dr. Tan Desai, Director General of the World Health Organization, Ambassador Weberson, leader of the United Nations Friendship Council, Professor Gupta, President of the International Ophthalmology Council, and Professor Tasagnon, President of the International Academy of Ophthalmology Professor Wang Ningli, President of the Asia Pacific Ophthalmic Society, and Dr. Kokur, CEO of the International Council of Ophthalmology delivered opening speeches respectively.
Since 1857, the World Ophthalmology Congress has been adhering to the international exchange platform to provide ophthalmologists with cutting-edge information and expertise in the prevention and treatment of eye diseases. As the organizer of this year's conference, 20 experts from the Chinese Mainland participated in the academic content arrangement of all 19 subspecialts of the conference as the main organizers. Each subspecialty was arranged with Chinese experts to preside over or give speeches. A total of 119 experts from the Chinese Mainland participated in the academic content of the conference. It was the most in-depth meeting attended by experts from the Chinese Mainland in the world eye conference over the years, and also won more say for Chinese ophthalmology in the world. In terms of contributions to the conference, ophthalmologists from Chinese Mainland contributed 605 papers, ranking the highest among all the countries and regions that contributed to the conference.
In addition, in order to let the global ophthalmology colleagues see the latest development in the field of ophthalmology in China and have a new understanding of the development of ophthalmology in China, the ophthalmology branch of the Chinese Medical Association specially organized a special meeting with the theme of "New Progress in China's Ophthalmology". Two academicians, current, former and incoming chairmen respectively demonstrated the new trends and new trends of China's ophthalmology to the world in the cloud.
After the meeting, Professor Gupta, President of the International Council of Ophthalmology, and Dr. Kokur, CEO sent a special letter of thanks to the Chinese Medical Association and the Ophthalmology Credit Association for their positive efforts in supporting the successful convening of the 2022 World Ophthalmology Congress; I would like to thank Professor Yao Ke, as the co chairman of the Academic Committee, for his great contribution to ensuring the highest quality of scientific content.
